Credit card sign up bonuses:
You may have heard a lot about ‘travel hacking’, which is the process of accruing frequent flyer points or miles, through signing up for credit cards with bonus points, and using the cards to pay for everything from groceries to utility bills to earn more points. This is something I personally do as one of the ways to afford our family travels. I tend to apply for cards that waive the annual fee for the first year, and ensure I read all the terms and conditions to ensure I meet the minimum spend requirements to qualify for the bonus points (i.e. spend $3000 in the first 60 days from card approval), and then cancel it once the points are received if I don’t want to continue using the card, to avoid paying the annual fee. Be aware that this can affect your credit score.
We do however have 2 permanent cards we keep for earning points when not applying for new bonuses, one of which is the Qantas American Express Ultimate Card. It is handy to keep a permanent card for any direct debits we have, rather than having to move them over from card to card all the time.
There are many different cards out there, and the bonuses change all the time, so check out sites like Qantas here or your preferred airline or bank to see the current offers. The Points Hack website is also well worth visiting, as it is a mine of information on travel hacking.
Also make sure you sign up for these airline frequent flyer programs:
Cashrewards – my favourite of the cash back shopping sites! Sign up here and receive $10 in your account. Joining is free and the site is easy to use, especially if you add the Cashrewards notifier bar to your web browser. Simply search for your favourite retailers (there are over 1200!), click ‘Shop now’ in the store’s page (or activate it through the notifier bar) and you will be redirected to the store’s website. Once your purchase is verified, you’ll receive the cashback into your account.
HOME AND MORE:
Aura Home – sign up to the newsletter to receive $15 off your first order.
Bambury – get $10 off your first order.
Canvas Champ – free canvas print
